London trip 16/1-20/1/2012

London field trip is over…. After this full week, between 16/1-20/1/2012, thirteen of the MAS students returned back to Zurich with their baggage packed with many beautiful experiences and numerous nice photos!


The schedule was really extensive, and among other things, the group had the chance to have a look from inside of some of the most active and famous London offices, such as Zaha Hadid Architects Studio, Arup AGU, United Visual Artists, were they were acquainted with the way these companies work and had a brief overview of some of their most popular realized or not and currently running projects. The schedule also involved visits of the OMA exhibition at the Barbican Art Gallery and also visits of Tate Modern and Victoria and Albert Museum.

Royal College of Art (RCA)

 

The students, also visited the Saint Martin’s Art College and the Royal College of Art (RCA), where they were given a tour of the school, the laboratories and a brief introduction to the ongoing projects, while they had the chance to talk to some of the students and discuss on their projects.  During the visit to the Royal Institute of Modern Architects’ Library, (RIBA) they met one of the largest and most important collections of architectural drawings, photographs and archives in the world, and were able to browse some of the first printed editions of Vitruvius and Alberti , as well as the first printed issue of famous Architectural magazines, like the 1st Architectural Review issue from 1896!

Moreover, the trip included visits of Master Programs practicing in the field of Information Technology and parametric design applications, were the group attended the Emtech M.Arch and the DRL Jury in the AA School of Architecture, as well as the workshop project results developed by the students of the respective programs of Bartlett School of Architecture. During their visit to the London Architecture Schools, the students also attended the lectures of Branko Kolarevic, Herman Diaz Alonso and Professor Ludger Hovestadt.

After each full day, the program also involved hanging out in some of the London’s most interesting and vibrant neighborhoods with the stylish shops, crowded bars, nice international restaurants with tasty food … Having only good things to remember from this trip, we are all looking forward to the next one!
